Nidhi Sharma - All Headline News Contributor Tokyo, Japan (AHN) - On Monday, a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 jolted western and southern Japan injuring at least seven people and affecting the transport system. The focus was 140 km (90 miles) below the earth's surface in Oita prefecture on Kyushu Island, about 800 km (500 miles) southwest of Tokyo. The Japan Meteorological Agency told Reuters that the local rail services were halted and bullet trains were forced to run at reduced speed in the wake of safety checks. Major cities to feel the full effect included Hiroshima where at least seven people were injured, Kyodo news agency reported. The earthquake, which struck at 5:01 a.m (2001 GMT), measured "lower 5" on the seven-point Japanese intensity scale. No tsunami warning was issued. About three hours later, another earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 struck Japan's northernmost main island of Hokkaido. There were no immediate reports of any damage.
