IAEA Claims Iran Still Enriching Uranium
Richard Rittierodt - All Headline News Contributor Vienna, Austria (AHN) - According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iran is continuing to enrich uranium as well as build new production lines for its centrifuge machines. Mohamed ElBaradei, head of IAEA, says "On June 6 2006, (Iran) started feeding UF6 (uranium gas) into the 164-machine cascade (line of centrifuges). Iran is continuing its installation work on other 164-machine cascades." Even though uranium can be enriched for nuclear reactor fuel, it can also be used to make nuclear weapons if enriched to a higher degree. The United States has stated that Iran is trying to make nuclear weapons under the disguise of its civilian nuclear energy program. That is a claim that Iran has consistently denied.
