South Korea and U.S. Mull Over North Korean Invite
Josephine Roque - All Headline News Contributor Seoul, Korea (AHN) - South Korea and the U.S. deliberate over North Korea's invitation to Washington's chief nuclear envoy to visit. The invitation is part of efforts to renew the deadlocked nuclear disarmament talks. According to the Philippine Star, Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill was invited to visit Pyongyang to prove Washington is committed to a September agreement to peacefully settle the nuclear dispute. The nuclear talks would involve North Korea ending its nuclear program in exchange for aid and security guarantees. South Korean Foreign Minister Ban Ki-moon says, "South Korea and the United States are holding close consultations over the issue," adding that Seoul was holding similar talks with other involved parties. Previously, North Korea has not gone back to negotiation talks due to Washington's financial restrictions for alleged illegal activities.
