Muslim Rebels Encounter Pro-Government Militias In Southern Philippines
Josephine Roque - All Headline News Contributor Cotabato,Philippines (AHN) - Muslim rebels combat pro-government militias in a spark of exchanged gunfire that government forces readily quelled to maintain cease-fire. The conflict arose from when the guerrillas charged a a group of militiamen of stealing a water buffalo. This started a spat that became an exchange of gunfire at a farming village in Sultan Sa-barongis town. A regional army spokesman, Col. Franklin del Prado, said soldiers rapidly moved to prevent an escalation of the clash that could harm civilians, disrupt a cease-fire and possibly threaten ongoing peace talks between the MILF and the government.
