Kidnapped Foreign Oil Workers In Nigeria Released
Nidhi Sharma - All Headline News Contributor Lagos, Nigeria (AHN) - Eight foreign oil workers, including one U.S. citizen being held hostage since Friday were released early Sunday morning. The hostages were in the state capital Yenagoa where they were reportedly "in good health" and on their way to the Nigerian capitol of Abuja where they are expected to meet with President Olusegun Obasanjo." According to Xinhua news, the workers- six British, one American and one Canadian, were aboard the drilling rig Bulford Dolphin, which operated for the Nigerian oil company Peak Petroleum, when the raid occurred. Nigeria's oil output has been disrupted many times by the attack on oil workers as well as production and transportation facilities by militants. Militants demand compensation for the destruction on environment of the oil-rich south by oil companies.
