Islamists Take Over Key Somali Town

Mogadishu, Somalia (AHN) - A key town outside Mogadishu has been seized by Somalia's Islamic Courts militia.

According to the BBC, Balad is located roughly 19 miles north of Mogadishu and was formally controlled by the warlord Muse Sudi Yalahow, the trade minister of the transitional government installed to bring the country to peace.

Warlords have controlled Mogadishu since they overthrew the last effective government roughly 15 years ago.

This latest victory for the Islamist comes after they have managed to take control of a majority of the capital.
