Heavy Rains And Lightening Kills 22 In India
Shaveta Bansal - All Headline News Contributor Ahmedabad, India (AHN) - Heavy rains and lightning have killed at least 22 people across India where the annual monsoon rains have set in a week ahead of schedule, officials said on Friday. Twelve people, including three children, were killed by lightning in Gujarat over the past 24 hours, a police official said. Ten other were electrocuted by lightning in West Bengal, which was experiencing heavy thunderstorms, says Reuters. "Storms lashed three districts with a very high wind speed," said J.V.M. Naidu, a West Bengal meteorological official. Earlier this week, a sharp shower disrupted traffic, caused power outages and brought parts of India's commercial capital, Mumbai, to a halt almost a year after monsoon rains shut down the city for days and killed hundreds of people in the region.
