Palestinian Leader To Pay Salaries

Gaza, West Bank (AHN) - The Palestinian Prime Minister, Ismail Haniyeh on Friday pledged to begin payment of salaries to civil servants across the territory.

Haniyeh has come under pressure over the last several weeks from growing unrest caused by the offended civil servants. He said banks will begin payment within the next couple of days.

Speaking at a Friday prayer session, the Prime Minister said civil servants who earn 1,500 shekels ($355) monthly would begin receiving their payment over the weekend. Those who earn more than 1,500 shekels will receive partial payment of 1,500 shekels, while the government will continue to owe them.
