Another Co-Defendant Kicked out of Court
Richard Rittierodt - All Headline News Contributor Baghdad, Iraq (AHN) - Saddam Hussein's former intelligence chief was once again escorted out of the court on Wednesday after getting into a heated argument with the judge in the case. It marks the second time that Barzan Ibrahim, who also happens to be Saddam's half brother, has been kicked out of court since the trial began last October. When a defense witness claimed that the prosecutor tried to bribe him to testify against Saddam, the tension rose in the courtroom. The witness said, "He gave me $500. He told me to say that my father was arrested and killed in detention." Chief prosecutor Jaafar al-Moussawi then accused the defense of making up the testimony. Al-Moussawi said, "There has been a fabricated attack on the prosecution in the past two days. It must be determined who recruited him to fabricate his testimony." Saddam and the other co-defendants are on trial for crimes against humanity in the Dujail crackdown, which was in response of a 1982 assassination attempt on the then Iraqi leader. If convicted, they could face execution by hanging.
