Exit Polls Show South Korea's Opposition Party Winning Most Posts
Yvonne Lee - All Headline News Staff Reporter Seoul, South Korea (AHN) - Exit polls show South Korea's main opposition party is likely to win posts in 11 of 15 key elections. BBC News reports President Roh Moo-hyun's ruling Uri party has become increasingly unpopular, winning just one post. The opposition Grand National Party (GNP) appears to be winning races for mayors, governors and regional assembly members. Uri Party campaign chairman Yum Dong-yun tells KBS TV, "It appears we have failed to read the people's minds." Those opposed to Mr. Roh's government say it is incompetent and divisive in its handling of the economy and foreign affairs. Should the GNP dominate election results, Seoul's relationship with North Korea could see a significant change. BBC News reports the U.S. has been annoyed by what it views as Seoul's indulgent policy toward Pyongyang.
