Beslan School Attacker Gets Life
Josephine Roque - All Headline News Contributor (AHN)In an emotional trial that has lasted for a year, the only surviving suspect from the Beslan school tragedy is sentenced to be jailed for life. BBC reports that Chechen carpenter Nur-Pashi Kulayev denied the charges relating to the 2004 attack in which more than 330 people died, many of them children. There is no death penalty in Russia because of a moratorium, so the harshest verdict that could be passed on Kulayev was a life in jail. Kulayev, 25, was part of the group of 32 Chechen separatists who held more than 1,000 children, parents and teachers hostage in the North Ossetia school for three days according to BBC.
