Warsaw, Poland (AHN) - Pope Benedict XVI on Friday defied the rains to celebrate mass at Warsaw square in Poland's capital. In his conservative tradition, the 79-year-old defended the Roman Catholic Churchs unchanging beliefs and attitudes. Reuters quotes the Pope saying Christians should beware of people, "seeking to falsify the word of Christ and to remove from the Gospel those truths which in their view are too uncomfortable for modern man." The Pope who arrived in Poland Thursday is on his first official visit to a foreign county since he was enthroned as John Paul II's successor. Close to 3 million Christians from all over Poland traveled to Warsaw to witness the his mass. Benedict XVI retraced his predecessor's route during his first visit to Poland in 1979. In that visit, Pope John Paul II dared to challenge the communist regime in power. He encouraged Poland's Solidarity movement which fought hard to see the fall of the communist regime.
