Rawalpindi, Pakistan (AHN) - Four people convicted of an assassination attempt on Pakistani prime minister Shaukat Aziz are sentenced to death. The anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi also gave life terms to three men while acquitting an eighth suspect. BBC News reports Mr. Aziz was not harmed in the July attack, when a suicide bomber detonated explosives next to his car. Eight people were killed in the assault. Extremists have targeted President Pervez Musharraf and his associates because of the government's efforts to eliminate al-Qaeda members from Pakistan. The court convicted the men for planning and aiding the attack on Mr. Aziz's motorcade just weeks before he became prime minister.
