China Saves Hundreds Of Vietnamese Fisherman After Typhoon

Beijing, China (AHN) - Chinese rescue ships have saved 330 Vietnamese fisherman during the powerful Typhoon Chanchu. In what state-media is calling "the largest international rescue operation at sea ever conducted by China," vessels have been searching for more than 40 hours to rescue fisherman from 22 boats caught in the storm. The rescue ship, "Nanhaijiu 111" has conducted most of the rescues, giving the greatfull seamen food, water and fuel; as well as recovering 21 bodies. Late Friday, Vietnam asked its communist neighbors to the north for support. Saturday, Vietnam's foreign ministry offered its "sincere thanks" to the Chinese embassy in Hanoi. In Vietnam, an estimated 37 fisherman have died, and hundreds more are still missing in the wake of the typhoon.
