Egypt Calls For International Nuclear Weapons Ban
Matthew Borghese - All Headline News Staff Writer
Cairo, Egypt (AHN) - Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is calling for an international ban on nuclear weapons amid Iran's struggle to develop a nuclear industry of its own. Mubarak says world leaders "must deal with the challenge posed by weapons of mass destruction, and in particular nuclear weapons, without double standards or selectivity." Mubarak is playing host to 1,200 mainly Arab leaders, from both politics and business, at the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. It is the first time the meeting of the World Economic Forum is held outside of Jordan. The atomic ban comes at a poor time for Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has been shoring up support for Tehran's nuclear program to prevent sanctions from the United Nations.
