New Delhi, India (AHN) - Suspected Islamic militants have opened fire on a crowd in Kashmir, killing at least eight people, and wounding over 25. According to authorities, two militants dressed as police attacked a Congress party rally before Indian police fired back. Indian authorities believe thousands of people had turned out to honor slain Indian prime minister, Rajiv Ghandi. Now, the two militants, two police officers, one of which is the inspector general, and four civilians are believed to be among the dead. The attack comes at yet another critical juncture for the peace process between India and Pakistan over the Kashmir region. This Wednesday, the second set of round table talks on the territory will be held in Srinagar, with a hope to end the violence that has kept the two nations in conflict for over 50 years. According to the BBC, two militant groups, Lashkar-e-Toiba and Al-Nasireen, have claimed responsibility for Sunday's attack.
