Gaza City (AHN) - A bombing at the Palestinian Intelligence Service headquarters in Gaza has left the Chief seriously injured, prompting the explosion to be labeled an assassination attempt. Officials confirm General Tareq Abu Rajab's survived a bomb attack that killed at least one person, and injured several others, as they stepped into an elevator. A spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas spoke out against the bombing, saying, "The assassination attempt... is a serious escalation and an attempt to undermine national security." Officials detail General Rajab has already survived one assassination attempt, in 2004. Now, Rajab was taken to a local hospital where he underwent surgery and is reportedly in stable condition. The move comes as tensions between the former ruling party, Fatah, and the new majority, Hamas, clash over the future of the Palestinian territory.
