European Union To Blacklist LTTE

Brussels, Belgium (AHN) – The European Union has planed to put Sri Lankan rebel group LTTE on its list of terrorist organizations, a report said on Friday.

The news comes just two days after a U.S. State Department official said during a visit to Sri Lanka that Washington has urged the EU to ban the LTTE.

Tamil rebels have claimed that further international moves to proscribe Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) would have a serious negative impact on the Norwegian-backed peace process and warned that they would be compelled to take a "hardline path", the pro-rebel Tamilnet website reported.
