Nepal Clips King's Powers

Kathmandu, Nepal (AHN) - Nepal's Parliament unanimously decided to curtail the King's political and military powers by stripping him of the title of the Supreme-Commander-in-Chief of army. The King was asked to pay taxes and barred him from convening the Parliament. His 'Majesty's government' would now be called Nepal government and the Royal Nepalese Army would be named the Nepalese Army. Press Trust of India reports that Nepal, which is the world's only Hindu Kingdom, would turn into a secular state and the post of the Supreme Commander in Chief of the army would be eliminated. The provisions of the 1990 Constitution would be annulled if they contradicted the landmark proclamation endorsed by the G.P.Koirala government.
