Johannesburg, Africa (AHN) For Darfurs small rebel groups, the deadline for signing the peace deal with the Sudanese government has been extended by 14 days till May 31. The African Union (AU) says that a faction of the Sudanese Liberation Army (SLA) and the Justice and Equality Movement (Jem) will risk United Nations sanctions in case the deal is rejected. On May 5, Darfur's biggest rebel group agreed to sign a peace deal aimed at ending three years of conflict with Khartoum, that has resulted in the killings of about 200,000 and created two million refugees. The BBC reports that the top leaders of SLA Abdel and Jem want more concessions from Sudan before they agree to the deal. Darfur's biggest rebel group, the main faction of the SLA, agreed to the deal earlier this month that calls for the demobilization of rebel forces and the disarmament of the pro-government Janjaweed militia.
