Mumbai, India (AHN) - Twelve people, including four women, were killed in central India after the vehicle they were riding in exploded during a landmine blast early Tuesday. Maoist rebels are suspected of carrying out the attack, which took place in a village in Maharashtra state. The victims made up part of a group that had attended a wedding and were returning to their village located in the neighboring state of Chhattisgarh. Over recent months, Maoist rebels have stepped up attacks throughout many Indian states. It is still unclear how many people were injured in the blast.
