Kinshasa, Congo (AHN)-- According to a U.N. official the international community is overlooking the world's worst humanitarian disaster in the Democratic Republic of Congo where about 10 million people need life-saving assistance. Reuters reports that the United Nations had issued an appeal three months ago for $682 million to provide water, food, medical assistance, shelter and protection to the central African State. One thousand two hundred people are reported to be dying every day. The U.N. Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that donors had provided only 13 percent of the required aid. The last war in the Congo ended in 2003. However, it was a five-year conflict which included six African nations and killed nearly 4 million people due to hunger and disease.
