Kandahar, Afghanistan (AHN) - Five policemen were killed, five others wounded during a police clash with Taleban rebels in the Afghan province of Kandahar. Police gunned down 11 Taleban rebels and injured eight others in a 60 minutes fire exchange that occurred on Monday. According to an Afghan police statement, a Taleban commander and his assistant were killed in the gunfire exchange. The fighting broke out in Panjwai district, 30km west of the town of Kandahar after policemen were tipped that the rebels were hiding in the district. "Unfortunately, we lost five of our men but we destroyed a dangerous group of Taleban. It's a big victory for our police," Mohammad Daoud Ahmadi an Afghan government spokes person said. The statement identified the deceased commander and his deputy as Mullah Abdul Baqi and Mullah Abdul Manan. Authorities have accused Manan of several attacks on government targets in Afghanistan.
