Over 150 Afghans Arrested In Pakistan    Updated:18 July 2006
With action authorized by the United States, Afghanistan and NATO, Pakistan arrested Taliban militants during overnight raids in the southwest province of Baluchistan. The Baluch government has so far arrested over 150 Afghans in the past two days.

Philippine Gov't Raises Alert Level To 4 Over Mayor Volcano    Updated:18 July 2006
Government volcanologists have raised the alert over Mayon Volcano to level 4 and predicted a major eruption is likely to happen within the next two weeks. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said lava flow coming from Mount Mayon's crater has reached 800 meters down the slope towards the Bonga gully early Monday.

Death Toll Rises In Java As More Bodies Are Uncovered From Rubble And Trees    Updated:18 July 2006
Search and rescue workers in Java were shocked to see bodies on top of tree branches and in the rubble of destroyed buildings and houses as the death toll in Monday's tsunami has risen to 339. Health officials accompanied by the army are scouring the shores of the island of Java in a desperate effort to look for survivors. However they are mostly finding bodies.

Unknown Group Claim Mumbai Bombings    Updated:18 July 2006
A shadowy but little-know group is claiming responsibility for the Mumbai train blasts as it warned of more attacks against government and historic sites in India. An e-mail was sent to Indian Television Aaj Tak by Lashkar-e-Qahhar, vowing more attacks and providing videos to prove they were responsible for the bombings which have killed 207 people and injured dozens more.

UN Chief Kofi Annan fleshed out plans for a UN force for violence-wrecked Lebanon, saying it could help Beirut get a grip on Hezbollah militants behind the upsurge of clashes in the Middle East. Annan elaborated on his proposals after talks in Brussels with European Union Foreign Policy chief Javier Solana, who was preparing to head back to the region.

Pakistan Govt. Issues Non-Bailable Warrants Against Former Prime Minister    Updated:18 July 2006
A Pakistani court issued non-bailable arrest warrants against former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and her spouse Asif Ali Zardari for allegedly not properly declaring their assets before the Chief Election Commissioner during the 1993 polls. The district and sessions judge here issued the non-bailable warrants against the two after they failed to appear before it in response to its summons.

Power Failure Shuts NY Subway Service    Updated:18 July 2006
According to New York's subway agency, some of the services carrying morning hours rush to and from busy sections of the city were shut down on Tuesday due to a power failure. U.S. Identifies Nine Missing Airmen From World War II    Updated:19 July 2006
The Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO) says it has identified nine servicemen missing in action (MIA) from World War II. According to the Pentagon, all nine were with the 63rd Bombardment Squadron, 43 Bombardment Group, and took off in a B-24 Liberator from for a reconnaissance mission over the Bismark Sea in 1943. That was the last time anyone saw them.

Army Prevents Pro-Democracy Leader From Honoring Father In Myanmar    Updated:19 July 2006
Pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi was prevented by Myanmar's military ruler from attending a rite that will honor his father and other independent leaders on Wednesday. The military junta locked the 61-year-old leader in her home. Suu Kyi, a recipient of the Nobel Peace prize, has spent 10 years of the last 17 years under house arrest after the junta has accused her of plotting to overthrow the government.

AHN Inside The Middle East: Hezbollah Rocket Hits Building In Nazareth    Updated:19 July 2006
Israeli authorities say a Hezbollah rocket hit a building Wednesday in the primarily Arab town of Nazareth, killing three people, two of whom were children. Television footage showed that the roof of the building was mostly destroyed. Mohammed Assawi, who saw the attack, told Israel's Channel 10 that the rocket that killed the two children struck in the middle of a street in the downtown area.

Four days of continued torrential rains has triggered mudslides and floods in central and western Japan killing 12 people and leaving 11 others missing. Civilian Dies And 4 Soldiers Wounded In Sri Lanka Blast    Updated:19 July 2006
A civilian was killed and four Sri Lankan soldiers were injured in an explosion on Tuesday in Jaffna. The blast was allegedly masterminded by the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam). The Trincomalee district political secretariat of the LTTE appealed to the Tamil people not to give room for the "enemy to forcefully occupy" their lands by leaving to other areas and countries afraid of violence.
