North Korea Threatens To Take "Stronger Physical Actions"    Updated:7 July 2006
While the United States and Japan struggled to set out a unified diplomatic response to the launches, North Korea threatened on Friday to take "stronger physical actions" after Japan imposed sanctions in response to its missile tests this week. Japan is pushing for a U.N. Security Council vote for Saturday on further sanctions against North Korea, despite opposition from veto-wielding members China and Russia, with Japanese Ambassador Kenzo Oshima, saying it was time for the Security Council to act "firmly, robustly and speedily" in response to the barrage of missiles fired by North Korea into waters near Japan.

The U.S. Department of State has updated its travel warning for Americans in Haiti. The Department warns against "the potential for looting; the presence of intermittent roadblocks set by armed gangs or by the police; and the possibility of random violent crime, including carjacking and assault. Kidnapping for ransom remains a serious threat, with more than 50 American citizens, including children, kidnapped over the past year."

Seven prisoners held in a Saudi Arabian prison on security charges have escaped. The prisoners were being held at a detention center in the capital of Riyadh. Six Saudis and a Yemeni were under investigation, but were not suspected militants and have no proven links to al-Qaida militants.

Indian Female Lawmaker Survived Sixth Attempt On Her Life    Updated:8 July 2006
Sakina Itoo, 36, a female lawmaker in India's Jammu and Kashmir region, survived a sixth attempt on her life on Saturday when separatist guerrillas threw a grenade, but five other citizens were killed and nearly 30 other injured. The police official told a news channel that militants made a grenade attack on Sakina, when she was coming out of a shrine in Kulgam.

United States Marines officers failed to investigate conflicting reports on the deaths of Iraqi civilians in the Haditha last year, media reports said on Saturday. India Successfully Test Fires Agni-III Ballistic Missile    Updated:9 July 2006
India's most sophisticated intermediate range ballistic missile (IRBM) Agni-III was test-fired from a range off the Orissa Coast on Sunday. The indigenously built surface-to-surface nuclear capable missile, with a range of 3,500 km (2,174 miles), was test-fired from a fixed platform at the launch complex of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at the Wheeler's Island at about 11:05 am local time.

Pakistani security forces killed 21 tribal rebels and wounded 15 others while targeting their hideouts in the south-west province of Baluchistan. Six firefighters were killed while battling a forest fire in Central Portugal. Officials say they were surrounded and had no way of escaping the flames. India's New Missile Fails In Test Launch    Updated:10 July 2006
According to the defense minister of India, their first test-firing of a new missile designed to carry nuclear warheads across much of Asia and the Middle East was unsuccessful. Although officials had initially reported the test-firing to be a success, Defense Pranab Mukherjee told reporters on Sunday that the Agni III missile plunged into the Bay of Bengal short of its target.
