Left Wing Politicians Win In Bolivia; Morales Upbeat On Changing The Constitution    Updated:3 July 2006
Bolivian President Evo Morales has won the majority he needs in parliament to begin rewriting the constitution. Early results say leftist party candidates won 133 out of 255 seats. While it is short of the two-thirds majority needed for full control, President Morales, a leftist leader looking to make sweeping reforms, says it is enough.

Iran Given Uranium Deadline Of July 12    Updated:4 July 2006
Western powers give Iran until July 12 to terminate uranium enrichment and concur talks on its nuclear program. If not, the country could face U.N. Security Council sanctions. Senior EU envoy Javier Solana will urge top Iranian nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani to commit his country immediately to suspending enrichment and starting negotiations.

Captured Israeli Soldier "Still Alive"    Updated:4 July 2006
An Israeli spokesman says the Israeli soldier held captive by Palestinian militants is still alive. As a deadline set by the militants waned, one of the groups holding Gilad Shalit captive said they would not harm him but more talks would come. The militants had given Israel until 0300 GMT to meet their demands to free Palestinian prisoners or face unknown "consequences."

UN Ships Attacked By Pirates In Malacca Strait    Updated:4 July 2006
Pirates have sabotaged two UN-chartered ships in the Malacca Strait. Noel Choong of the International Maritime Bureau's piracy center says both ships were en route to Sceh from Sumatra when they were ambushed. The pirates made off with cash and construction materials, which belonged to the UN's World Food Program. Luckily. no injuries were reported.

Dublin Airport Evacuated After Bomb Scare    Updated:4 July 2006
Dublin International Airport was evacuated on Tuesday after a man walked into the arrivals hall saying he had a bomb. A bomb disposal unit was sent to the airport, north of the Irish capital, and traffic was diverted away from the area during a two-hour security operation but the airport reopened after experts found only clothes and papers in the package the man was carrying.

Gunmen pulled the deputy electricity minister from his car in a busy Baghdad street on Tuesday, briefly kidnapping him and 19 bodyguards in an attack that underscored the vulnerability of Iraq's new government. Interior Ministry sources say Raad al-Harith was released with seven of his bodyguards 12 hours after he was abducted by men wearing camouflage uniforms, who stopped his convoy in eastern Baghdad, but no further details were given.
