Austrian police believe the woman they found near Vienna, Austria was the same girl who was reported missing eight years ago while she was walking from school on the way home. The police said they found the passport of Natascha Kampusch at the house where she was allegedly imprisoned all these years. She also bore the same distinctive scar with the missing girl.

Thailand's caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said he survived an assassination attempt on his life, after police stopped a car carrying explosives near his residence early morning Thursday. The explosives were eventually defused by bomb experts and two people were arrested regarding the incident. Europe Rushing Deployment Of Peacekeepers To Lebanon    Updated:24 August 2006
The European Union is rushing efforts to secure the required 15,000 troops to form an expanded peacekeeping force in Lebanon as Israel on Thursday warned time is running out for the deployment of the international peacekeeping force. Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja, whose country holds the EU presidency, is scheduled to visit Paris and Berlin, while Israel's foreign minister will arrive in Italy as diplomatic efforts are being stepped up.

A court in Bangkok, Thailand has sent to prison at least 136 illegal immigrants from North Korea and was told to pay $160 for violating the country's immigration laws. Those convicted were part of a group of 175 asylum seekers from North Korea found hiding in an abandoned house in the nation's capital Bangkok on Tuesday. However, the court waived the fine because all of them were unable to pay.
